Our 2005- 2006 Concert Season Friday, November 4, 2005 8:00 PMBenjamin Franklin Middle School, Ridgewood, NJ Guest Soloist: Chris Jaudes Leading Broadway Trumpeter Narrator: Bill Whitney CBS News Correspondent, Radio Chris Jaudes, world-class trumpet player, is guest soloist for our season opener. The concert also features Tschaikovsky's 1812 Overture and the world premiere of Patrick Burns' I Loved Well Those Cities based on the poetry of Walt Whitman and narrated by Bill Whitney. The RCB closes with a star-spangled tribute to our veterans.

The University of Illinois Wind Symphony, under the direction of James F. Keene, previews their upcoming program at Carnegie Hall. The Illinois Brass Quintet, featuring Ronald Romm, joins the ensemble to perform David Gillingham's Quintessence II. The program also includes Percy Grainger's Lincolnshire Posy and Frank Ticheli's Blue Shades. The Ridgewood Concert Band's program includes Alfred Reed's Armenian Dances, Vaclav Nelhybel's Symphonic Movement, and in honor the the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth, his Overture to the Magic Flute. Tickets for this special performance are $20 except for those previously purchased through subscriptions. |

Brian Jordan, a senior from John F. Kennedy Memorial High School in Iselin. NJ, will perform two movements of Paul Creston's Concertino for Marimba and receive a $1,000 scholarship. The second prize, a $500 scholarship, will be awarded to flutist Kimberly Freiler from Chatham High School, and the third prize, a $250 scholarship, will be awarded to Bradley Robinson, French hornist from West Orange High School. The program also features John Mackey's Redline Tango, Shostakovich's Finale - Symphony No. 5, Rimsky-Korsakov's Procession of Nobles, and Rossini's Italian in Algiers. |
