premier trombonists. Joseph Alessi will perform Bert Appermont’s astonishing Colors.
The RCB will perform some of Sousa’s favorite pieces such as Tchaikovsky’s March Slav and the traditional Scottish melody Annie Laurie. The RCB will also perform Ron Nelson’s dynamic Rocky Point Holiday. |

The Ridgewood Concert Band and Donald Batchelder
will perform David R. Gillingham’s patriotic and
beautifully melodic When Speaks the Signal-Trumpet Tone.
Led by guest conductor Dr. Mary Ann Craig, the RCB
will perform Malcolm Arnold’s Peterloo Overture.
The band will also play John McCabe’s Cloudcatcher
Fells as transcribed by the RCB’s own Ruth DeSarno,
and Hector Berlioz’ Les Troyens March. |

Flutist Michael Parloff will delight with Ralph Vaughan
Williams’ The Lark Ascending. Other works include Barnes’
Variations on a Moravian Hymn, Susato’s Suite from the
Danserye, and Humperdinck’s Evening Prayer and Pantomime from Hansel and Gretel.
With the holidays in mind, the band will perform
Leroy Anderson’s Christmas Festival and the traditional
Carol of the Bells. |

The Ridgewood Concert Band will delight children of all ages with familiar music from movies and Broadway shows. Played in full band sound, hear themes from The Incredibles, Wicked, Chicago, 76 Trombones and more. Meet the conductor, the musicians, and their instruments up close and personal. Children and grown-ups alike will gain new musical appreciation!

Hear the Ridgewood Concert Band with the Cathedral
Basilica’s magnificent 9,513-pipe organ. The Cathedral
Basilica’s organist Vincent Carr will join the RCB in
Respighi’s Pines of Rome, Weinberger’s Polka and Fugue from
Schwanda, the Bagpiper, Richard Strauss’ Feierlicher Einzug,
and Elsa’s Procession to the Cathedral composed by Wagner.
The concert will also feature Dello Joio’s Scenes from the Louvre. |

Guest Soloist: Orpheus Club Men’s Chorus

The concert will feature the Orpheus Club Men’s Chorus
with John J. Palatucci conducting Copland’s Songs. The
band, under the baton of Dr. Wilhjelm, will perform
Percy Grainger’s Scotch Strathspey and Reel, Hindemith’s
Concert Music, Opus 41 and the stirring Battle Hymn of
the Republic. Organist Joanne Rodland will join RCB
in Alfred Reed’s Alleluia Laudamus Te.
The first-prize winner of the 2007 Youth Soloist
Competition will perform with the RCB and receive a scholarship. The
second- and third-prize winners will also receive scholarships. |
