First Place: Solo performance with The Ridgewood Concert Band on Friday, May 10, 2013 and $1,000 scholarship award

Second Place: $500 scholarship award

Third Place: $250 scholarship award

On Eligibility

The 2012 - 2013 Ridgewood Concert Band Youth Soloist Competition is open to United States citizens and legal non-citizens who are full-time high school students residing in the following counties: Morris, Bergen, Passaic, Sussex, Hudson, Essex, Union & Rockland.

On The Entry Process

Entering the RCB YSC is a two-step process. - Students must submit a typewritten letter with applicant’s name, instrument, address, telephone number, school, grade, e-mail address and a $25 entrance fee (check made payable to Ridgewood Concert Band, Inc.) postmarked by January 31, 2013. - Students must then submit a recording of their piece on audio, cassette tape or compact disc postmarked by February 28, 2013. Accompaniment is not necessary for preliminary audition recordings. All entry forms and recordings must be mailed to: RCB Youth Soloist Competition C/O Jane Rondin, 9 Myrtle Avenue, Butler, New Jersey 07405.

On The Competition Process

The finalists will be chosen March 6th, 2013, and will be notified by phone and email, then by mail if necessary. Finals will be held in on the morning of March 24, 2013. (site to be determined) Please check the website www.ridgewoodband.org for updates. Accompaniment at finals is required. The winners will receive their scholarships and the first place winner will perform with the RCB at the May 10, 2013 concert.

Repertoire Requirements

Candidates are to perform a piece of appropriate standard with band accompaniment e.g. a Region Band piece or a piece of similar difficulty. Please consult with teachers or our committee if you are unsure of accompaniment availability.
